Back in Sheikh Jarrah
Jesper Klemedsson
Sheikh Jarrah is a Palestinian neighbourhood with some 2800 inhabitants, just north of the Old City of Jerusalem.
The neighbourhood has been internationally known since it have become a focal point in the conflict between Israeli settlers and the Palestinians in the city.
Today, some 60 Palestinians, including 20 children, have been evicted by force from their homes. Additional eight families are waiting for the outcome of Israeli Supreme Court.
28 Palestinian families are directly threatened of eviction to give room for Israeli settlers.
These evictions have been condemned by the UN, US and EU since it violates international law under the fourth Geneva convention, article 49; the occupation power is forbidden to move its own population into occupied territories.
